Dermatology - Acne

In addition to conventional therapies for acne and acne/rosacea, there are a few methods that work equally as well, although they are used more often for facial aging and refining of the complexion.

One such treatment is the salicylic acid peel. Salicylic acid is one of a family of substances known as beta hydroxy acids. The Beta Peel gently exfoliates the dead cells from the surface of the skin to reveal the fresh skin underneath. This procedure is a gentle way of addressing oily or acne-prone skin, enlarged pores, and superficial scars. Beta Peels are usually given as a series of 6-8 treatments, approximately two weeks apart.

Micro-dermabrasion (particle skin resurfacing) is another superficial peel that removes the outer layer of skin with a highly controlled spray of fine aluminum oxide crystals which finely sands the skin. This treatment typically takes under 30 minutes, has no recovery time, and patients notice an improvement in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after the first treatment. It is excellent for all skin types. Though one can appreciate the benefits of micro-dermabrasion with only one treatment, best results are achieved by undergoing a series of abrasions.
