Using oil on our skin is a trending and popular beauty ritual. Different oils have varying effects on our complexion, so it can be difficult to know which is the right oil for your skin. Wondering which oil is best for your acne prone skin? Dr. Lisa Donofrio has the answer! Dr. Donofrio was recently featured in a Yahoo! Beauty article as one of the country’s top dermatologists article called “4 Oils to Add to Your Beauty Routine.”
In the article, Dr. Donofrio recommends Tea Tree Oil for blemish prone skin. Dr. Donofrio explains that Tea Tree Oil has microbial properties that can help clear up the bacteria that cause breakouts. She advises not applying Tea Tree Oil directly, but rather to “buy it diluted or use between 5 and 15 drops of an undiluted essential oil per ounce of base oil, like argan, rosehip or jojoba.”
Oils are a great alternative to over-the-counter products that can contain harmful ingredients. Those who have sensitive skin may find that oil is gentle, effective and doesn’t cause any reactions to their skin like chemical products can.
While oils in general are good for the complexion, it is important to make sure you aren’t allergic to any of the oils you are considering applying to your skin. Doing some research will give you a good idea of which oils to avoid. For example, citrus oils can make skin prone to sun damage so avoiding citrus while spending time outdoors is wise.
