As summer gets closer, we will all be spending much more time outdoors in the sun. Protecting our skin from harmful UV rays will not only prevent premature signs of aging, it will help prevent sun damage that can lead to skin cancer. Since May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, The Savin Center wants to share the importance of sun protection and prevention!
Skin Cancer occurs when sun-damaged cells grow, mutate and multiply to form tumors. These damaged cells can form due to overexposure to the sun or tanning beds. The three most common types of Skin Cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma.
The Savin Center recommends regular Skin Cancer screenings to check for any abnormal cells and to prevent possible complications. Here at The Savin Center, we offer the most advanced Skin Cancer treatments in the Northeast, including both Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy and excisional surgery.
To prevent Skin Cancer, it is essential to take the necessary steps in protecting your skin this summer. Reapplying sunscreen when needed and staying covered or in the shade to minimize sun exposure is vital. If you are unsure whether a growth on your skin is cancerous or not, get a screening as soon as possible! Skin Cancer can be cured if caught in its early stage.
Celebrate Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May by protecting yourself against sun damage!
