Here at The Savin Center, we are dedicated to your health and wellbeing, which is why we are promoting Psoriasis Awareness Month this August. Our goal is to bring attention to this chronic skin condition and educate our New Haven area patients on the benefits of treatment.
Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes skin cells grow too quickly and become out of control. This creates thick white, silvery or red patches of skin called plaques to form on the knees, elbows, scalp, hands or feet. These areas can become itchy and tender and are very uncomfortable for the patient. Psoriasis is not contagious but is hereditary, being passed down from parents to children. The condition can also appear spontaneously, with no one specific cause. This is why it’s important to know the signs and keep your eyes open for blotchy patches of skin so that we can begin treatment as soon as possible.
There currently is no cure for psoriasis, as it is a chronic disease, but The Savin Center offers a course of treatments and specific medications to keep symptoms under control. A group of medications, called biologics, have proven successful in managing the effects of the condition and will help most psoriasis patients keep their skin clear and comfortable. After a consultation at The Savin Canter, our team will devise a course of action for managing your psoriasis to give you beautiful, smooth skin that radiates confidence!
